A 20-year-old man who spent some of his teenage years living on the streets has turned a $20 scratchie ticket into $200,000 after winning the jackpot. CCTV footage captures the touching moment engaged Perth couple Jordan Ross and Jayde Hicks learned they had bought a winning ticket. ‘When I got it, I was just bawling my eyes out, I was shaking,’ Ms Hicks told 9 News.
‘This money is life changing I was under so much stress and financial hardship.’
Mr Ross had moved out of home as a 15-year-old boy and spent months living it rough, with just a bag of clothes and skateboard to his name. The pair, who had decided to postpone their September nuptials due to financial struggles, will now be able to plan the wedding of their dreams.
‘We couldn’t afford to have the wedding so we were going to postpone it but now we can have it,’ Mr Ross told The West Australian. Ms Hicks’ first impulse was to buy a new vacuum cleaner and shop for wedding dresses, while Mr Ross splashed out on a brand new boat. The rest of the money will go towards a brand new car for Mr Ross’ struggling mum.
‘She told me her dream car was a Mustang, so I’m just going to drop it into her driveway as a surprise,’ Mr Ross told 9 News. Earlier this week, a group of 15 office workers have claimed a $4.2 million jackpot Lotto prize after more than half the syndicate members were made redundant. The syndicate had been buying tickets together for more than ten years.
