Single Dad Adopts 5 Siblings So They Can Stay Together – Video

A 48-year old single father Lamont Thomas who has been fostering more than 30 children for the past 20 years, has adopted 5 siblings altogether under the age of 5 years so that they can stay together. Back in 2000, when he was a di-vorced dad of two children he took his first foster kid and named him Michael Perez.

Initially, it was to help some friends who long their children to the system, but then he got certified to be a foster parent and started adopting children in 2007.

In the interview, Lamont Thomas said, “Michael was a good young man and I just hated to see him in the system.” So, he adopted him eventually and now he is working as a nurse. Turns out it was just the beginning, and over the next 2 decades, he fostered more than 30 children in Buffalo, New York and now even adopted five siblings as well.

Lamont Thomas did everything on his own and from his heart. Currently, he has 12 children, out of which 10 are adopted and 2 are his biological children. Lamont Thomas adopted the 5 siblings named Zendaya aged 5, Jamel aged 4, Nakia aged 3, Major aged 2 and Michaela aged 1.

In the interview with Good Morning America, Lamont Thomas said, “I was fi-ghting to keep back the tears. Every day I think about it, my eyes swell up. All that we endured making this happen, it was something.” Lamont Thomas added, “Every child that I have had, it was my goal to make a difference in their lives. Nearly, after 20 years of fostering, he thought that he was done taking care of the children, as some of his older children have already moved out and are living their lives and have even started their own families.

But when he learned that the children of one of his men, which he has fostered in the past, have been put in foster care and have even divide in four different cities for almost 2 years now. He could not stop himself and decided to get fostering certificate again with an intent to adopt these children. Michael said, “It really was a shocker. I didn’t expect for him to restart and to do it all over again. It’s just amazing.” Lamont Thomas who works as a caterer has been fostering the 5 siblings for the past 2 years. Now, Lamont Thomas has officially adopted them, so that they can stay together as a family.

He said that he had some other plans for the coming years, but now they have been shattered by them. Lamont Thomas said, “They bring new energy to me. They are lovable kids, very affectionate. They deserved to be raised as siblings and that was my fi-ght.” He added, “I wanted to make a difference by being a difference, and I love what I do.” Lamont Thomas has a great support system from the church and his friends. He is not opposed to even add a wife to the family. But even if not, he is doing it fine all alone, as long as it makes a difference. He hopes that other people would also consider becoming foster parents just like him.
