Robert Simpson a handyman from Kentucky was out of job and not having a place to stay. He was on streets, looking for work as he had no job due to Corona virus pandemic. Robert was not asking for money, he was seeking an opportunity to work.
Robert Simpson puts up in Louisville, KY and used to pick odd jobs as handyman post Covid-19 pandemic. With the onset of pandemic, Robert was unable to find any jobs and due to lack of money he lost his home too. He together with his girlfriend and their 6 year old son were putting up in a rented motel room. But this could not be their long term roof. Robert said “We have to pay rent every day. And it costs $55 to $60 to stay there, and I’m running short on money.”
With no source of income Robert was not having enough funds to keep up with daily needs. Robert went out on the streets with a signboard that read “Handyman, 25 years experience, Need Work.” Robert was looking for someone to help him and offer him work. Even though it was too hot out on the streets, Robert would stand on streets every day. He said “I just thought I’d go out there and see if I could find a job.”
A kind soul, noticed Robert with his signboard, he clicked his picture and posted it on social media. That’s when Kyle Kark saw Robert’s picture on the social media. Kyle Kark, owner of Greenstar Home Remodeling thought helping Robert and offering him some work.
Kyle said “We just made the decision to have him come on. I don’t know if we will have something for him all the time, but we will do what we can to help him get back on his feet.” Kyle asked Robert to work for him for some demolition work. Robert who was willing to take up any job did not even ask how much he would be paid.
Being a handyman, Robert had substantial skills for remodeling jobs. Robert said “I started out as a painter, and then I became a landscaper – mechanical work, roofing – whatever I could make money at.”
Kyle used to pick Robert for work as Robert was not having his own transportation. Kyle not only provided work to Robert and paid him on the first day but also got groceries for his family. Robert worked hard and gave all of his time and efforts to work for Kyle Kark. Kyle was impressed with him and he thought of raising funds for Robert so that Robert’s family will be on their feet.
Kyle wrote “Rob is a humble man and has not once asked for a dime he has not earned. But he and his family are without essential needs, such as a vehicle and a permanent place to stay, so it is Green Star’s hope that you will join us in supporting our neighbor.”
Kyle’s fundraising has helped Robert in a big way. He said “That’s God’s work.” Robert intends to work with Kyle as long as Kyle has work for him. And even Kyle wants to offer work to Robert so that Robert and his family a good future. Both Robert and Kyle have mutual respect for each other. Kyle said “If he is coming to work and showing up and doing good work, I got work for him, I will definitely keep him on and help him any way I can.”
