‘He Knew How To Do It’: Serena Williams Reveals Why She And Venus Shared Their Story Through Their Father’s Eyes

Serena Williams shared the story, of how her impassioned father has helped her and her sister and turned them into the world’s greatest tennis players. The story of the daughters was told in a film named “King Richard”, which constitutes several fundamental moments of the family, including the childhood memories of Serena and Venus, under the guidance of their father Richard Williams.

In the movie, Will Smith has played the titular character.

Initially, the movie faced a bit of controversy, when the movie’s poster was shared on social media for the first time. Actress-comedian Amanda Seales was caught flak when she questioned that why Will Smith was cast as the father, Richard, and why the film was said as the Venus and Serena’s story through their father’s eyes.

Serena said, “There are so many ways to tell this story. But I think telling it through my dad was the best way because he had the idea. He knew how to do it.” She said that her father was ahead of his time when it came to training her and Venus. She has centered the sisters around Richard’s influence, which she believes that the audience will see that too.

Will Smith said, “I guess the in through Richard appealed to me, because it’s the only way I could be involved,” He felt a sense of familiarity when it came to portraying the Williams. Will Smith said that the character of Willow reminds him of his father, He said, “He reminds me a lot of my father. It was that same generation in which men used to fix everything with their hands. I understood what it was like to live at the edge of survival and to try to sustain a dream.”

Not only because of the lines, but Smith also saw himself in the father, who was unwavering and helped his daughters achieve success in the tennis court and become the world’s greatest tennis players. He said, “After my children were born, [I had] that same thing of trying to cultivate young, contributing humans,”

After trying to mold his daughter into a Billboard-charting artist and helping her get success in debut single “Whip My Hair,” Smith realized that there was only so much pushing he could do.Smith added, “Willow showed me the difference between how you would go at a boy and how you would go at a young woman going into the world of competition, and without that insight I am certain I would not have been able to portray Richard to his fullest extent.”

According to Smith “King Richard’ was just uniquely timed in his life. He said, “There was a comprehension of all of the different angles that I have now over 50, that I wouldn’t have been able to even conceive at 40,”
