What is labor?
Labor is the process of childbirth, starting with contractions of the uterus and ending with the delivery of the baby.
1 The baby drops
This occurs when the baby’s head descends deeper into the pelvis. For some women, this occurs up to 2 weeks prior to the beginning of labor but dropping time becomes harder to predict with every successive baby.
2 An increased urge to urinate
When baby’s head dropping occurs it puts more pressure on urinary bladder.
Woman’s whose labor is near may feel frequent need to urinate.
3 The mucus Plug passes
During pregnancy, the cervix (the entrance to the uterus) becomes blocked with mucus to help protect the developing baby. It may come away all in one piece or in small pieces that you don’t even notice. It may appear as what is called bl-oody show—pink, brown, or red
4 Back pain
You may feel pain in your lower back as when your labor nears. When labor is 24 to 48 hours away, pain might worsen in the lower back. It is may be due to hormone changes, baby’s added weight etc
5 water br-eaks
Water br-eaking is the sign of going into labor is near. It occurs when aminiotic sac ruptures. This aminiotic fluid is colourless and odourless and it is very difficult to distinguish from urine.
6 Weight loss
Pregnancy weight gain often levels off at the very end. Some mom to even lose couple of kilos. The reason behind weight loss is dropping due to lower levels of amniotic fluid, frequent urination.
7 Loosening of joints
When labor is near most of joints in women body’ parts are relaxed and feel a bit less light. This is due to a hormone called relaxin.
It occurs when uterus are relaxing in preparation for birth. It can also be due to hormones and diet changes made to give her baby the nutrients they need.
9 Fatigue and a “nesting instinct”
A desire to get the house ready for a baby. Some women feel tiredness while some feel more energy towards the end of pregnancy.
