Missy Elliott Looks Regal In Orange Dolce & Gabbana Coat As She Talks Breaking Barriers For Women Of Color

She taught us all how to “get our freak on” and is the proud recipient of five Grammy Awards. Trailblazer Missy Elliot is undoubtedly music industry royalty. She made sure she worked it in a patterned Dolce & Gabbana coat for her August 2019 cover photoshoot for Marie Claire. The hitmaker who has sold over over 30 million records, also spoke to the magazine about how she has broken barriers for women of color.

In the pages of the publication, the 5″5 beauty made sure to lift up all her black queens. She explained: “I am a champion for my brown, dark women. I want them to be seen. Because we are beautiful. If we knew how special we were, we would be unstoppable.” On the cover of the magazine, Missy rocked a brocade embroidered pattern coat.

The designer number also included a colorful lapel. Missy wore a matching brown plaid top and trousers over the couture coat, that was also designed by Italian luxury brand, Dolce and Gabbana. The rapper accessorized with huge gold hoop earrings and several necklaces. One huge pendant had the word “iconic” emblazoned on it. Missy’s brunette tresses were styled into long braids as she highlighted her natural looks with pink eyeshadow and shiny lip.

Back in May, Missy became the first ever female hip-hop artist to receive an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music. During her acceptance speech, she admitted she was so nervous she stood there for about 20 seconds without talking. “I didn’t even realize. You know what’s so funny? I wrote a speech and got up there and choked up, and before I knew it, I was like, “Oh my God, where’s the paper?” And it was just crumbled up on the podium,” she told Marie Claire.

She was one of three honorary recipients, along with pop superstar and former NSYNC member Justin Timberlake. The prestigious award requires sales of at least one million units for each album.
